COOKIE’S DIARY – Exciting News for Cookie

Cookie’s Exciting News

As you all know, Cookie wrote some amazingly detailed journals while she was Cook & Housekeeper at The Flamingo & with her help we’ve done our best to give you all a snap shot of her time there.  To date we’ve posted 30 little episodes covering the ‘early years‘ as she calls them, from 1968 to 1975.

Who would have thought when we started this project that it would have become so popular!  Almost every week Cookie gets fan mail from her readers with emails & lots of comments from you all asking for more, more, more, you all seem to want to know more!

Life has a funny way of sorting itself out at times & just when things were going along nicely, Cookie herself has met with some crippling health & family challenges that have caused her to step back from her co-authoring duties & is no longer able to participate on any level with our little project.

We were left with a dilemma.  What to do?  Cookie’s Diary surely can’t just end (you would never forgive us) but we knew we could never do it justice in its current format without Cookie’s input.

So, we are currently in some very positive discussions about the future of Cookie’s wonderful story & next week we hope to be able to announce some very exciting news. All I can tell you at this stage is that you’ll be getting more – much more!  No longer will you be left hanging I promise you.

COOKIES DIARY Pt. 29

Each week I post another fascinating true-life excerpt from my friend & mentor’s journals while she was Housekeeper & Cook at The Flamingo, during the period 1968-1999, titled Cookie’s Diaries. Together we’ve changed a few things around & set Cookies story in a fictional Australian country town so as to protect the innocent & the not so innocent!  We hope you enjoy Cookies journey from such humble & all but penniless beginnings to owning & running the highly successful country guesthouse, ‘The  Flamingo’. The Rock Pool Delema

It had taken Pietro, Jamie & Frederick almost 4 years to complete the enormous task of turning the boggy little creek-bed at the bottom of The Flamingo’s property, into a beautifully landscaped freshwater swimming pool & entertainment area.  In daylight hours it was a shady cool retreat to escape to where you could lounge away the day with a good book or doze the afternoon through in one of the many deck chairs, listening to the constant fall of water over the rocks & boulders, when you weren’t cooling off in the water.

It was in the evening though that this beautiful oasis became an enchanted garden with cleverly placed underwater lighting, showcasing Pietro’s marvellous tile work.  The clever spotlights completely changed the fernery surrounding the waterfalls into a tropical paradise & the huge ghost gums took on other worldly dimensions all lit up at night, towering overhead & adding still more mystery to the evening atmosphere.
