FIRESTONE Pizzeria & Bar

A quick drink with friends after work on a cold & rainy Canberra evening, that’s all it was meant to be, although as soon as we stepped into the bar area at Firestone with its vibrant hum of laughter & the wait staff buzzing past us carrying dishes that had ā€œeat meā€ written all over it, we knew we’d just have to give into the temptation & beg for one of their last remaining tables.

Firestone is located in the inner northern suburb of Dickson’s restaurant strip in Canberra; the crowd are young & trendy & come here before a late night out knowing the food is good, will be quick to arrive & the staff are friendly & fabulous. Ā This place also goes off with the business lunch crowd as well & a bit of a fave for the locals when a take-away pizza is on the the menu!

I really like Firestones approach to food, the mains are simple with great flavor combinations & offer an extensive range of sharing plates (Tapas) using seasonal produce that speaks well for itself. Ā Things step up a notch with the dessert pizzas though, they’ve created some awesome sweet flavors like apricot, pear & vanilla bean ice-cream pizza & Banana and Bitter Chocolate Calzone & just the thing to share with your gal pals as we did. Now that the weather is warming up a bit, the traditional Aussie gal in me seems to surface as the summer months approach, and I gotta say, there really isn’t too much better on a stinker (Aussie Slang – for bloody HOT day) than a good cold glass of the bubbly brew. All in the name of work mind you, I’ve been investigating some great hops to drink with some tasty tapas. Ā I’m designing Ā a cocktail wedding reception early next year where my notes read ‘As long as there’s beer’! Continue Reading
