AWARDS NIGHT & The Winner Is….

 by Anna Johnston

Holidays are great!  Not only is there the holiday part where you get to relax & rest & take a bit of a breather, but you also get to catch up on all those things you didn’t get to do in the mad rush towards Christmas.

One of the first things I’d like to share is over the last couple of months I’ve been really flattered to receive some awesome awards, & part of the pleasure of receiving these prizes are you get to pay it forward & grant some fabulous folk in our foodie fold the same recognition.  Pretty cool right?

Now the rules of engagement seem a little muddy here, so I’m going to take a little poetic licence & change things up a bit, & first of all introduce you to three fabulous food bloggers who have bestowed these awards. Chef Jodie from Mood Food & Sarah from Oh For The Love of Food gave this little blogster The Lovely Blog Award while Priyanka from The Healthy Diary has granted the Stylish Blogger Award. Thanks so much guys.

Chef Jodie - Mood Food

Chef Jodie is a professional chef in London UK, having trained at Gordon Ramsays restaurants & calls her blog ‘Mood Food’ because that’s what cooking is all about! Jodie has recently opened her restaurant called Baity Kitchen (which means ‘my home’ in Arabic)

Sarah - Oh For the Love of Food

Sarah’s love of food shines bright in her blog & she often gives a shout out to vendors or merchants in her Sth Australian state. When Sarah writes about a dinner party she’s attended or recipe she’s conquered, you feel you’ve indulged in every morsel!

Priyanka - The Healthy Diary

Priyanka admits she can eat, think & breath food & she writes her blogs in a diary fashion where she shares with us her daily thoughts often engaging her readers to answer questions.

Quiet now…., little drum roll please!

Now, its time for me to do a little award granting of my own & I look forward to seeing who all you guys choose to award as you pay it forward as well!

Rebecca - The Intolerant Chef

ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD

The reason for her own intolerances stemmed from Rebecca’s personal health journey, “Gluten & Lactose are not my friends & I have many chemicals that refuse to tolerate me, and insulin finds me hard to resist”.  Despite all this, Rebecca has a super positive attitude & is a healthy, happy person who loves cooking saying “I like to think I’ve risen above the prejudices of a bread & milk filled world”.

Boogie - The Boogie Blog

STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Boogie kicked his blogging career off because his grandma was an amazing cook & unfortunately her recipes were rarely written down. It was a nice way to have a digital copy of these recipes & they’re accessible from any phone or computer. He cooks/bakes & takes so many pictures of his food that not blogging about them would be absurd!

Hannah - Wayfaring Chocolate

ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD

A 23-year-old PhD student, who spends rather a lot of time dreaming about/thinking of/partaking in/writing about chocolate and travel. Her blog is a blend of chocolate reviews, travel tales, cooking, thinking, and anecdotes about her life.

Oz - Kitchen Butterfly

ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD

This Food Struck Nigerian now living in the Netherlands philosophy is – “Combine. Experiment (except with Celery, not too keen on). Share and Forgive – absolutely (in cases of recipes gone awry, forgive thyself O determined cook), because with food, tomorrow is another day. Oh and measure with kitchen scales… when you can! It took me a while to get the hang of it – proportions are sometimes (not always) the key to success”

Ananda – A Pinch of Love

ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD

Experimenting with food is something Ananda enjoys apart from researching, it’s a stress buster! When she isn’t working, you will find her in the kitchen or muddling with her camera. Why A Pinch of Love? Food is the driving force of her life, she wishes to treat it with love, not only does it fulfill the hearts desire or hunger, but it reaches the soul….That’s the way she see’s life!

Heidi - Apples Under My Bed

ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD

Her snack of choice as a child – crisp, sweet local Red Hill apples, and yes folks, she left the cores under her bed. She loves food and cooking. She constantly dreams about travel, where she’s been and where she’s planning on going next. Heidi is a Dietitian and loves that she gets to talk about food all day long.

Michael - Me My Food & I

ONE LOVELY BLOG AWARD

Michael grew up in the kitchen, following his Chef mom from kitchen to kitchen. He believes that home-cooked meals are the best excuse for a good time and the easiest way to make any good time better. That’s why he started his blog – Me, My Food & I. He wanted to share his stories and the food that brings people together.

Sean - Spectacularly Delicious

STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Sean’s mission of Spectacularly Delicious is to share his life long collection of show-stopping recipes and culinary presentations that will amaze and astound. His site is not for the novice or the faint of heart; you need to know your way around the kitchen to pull off many of these triumphs.

Laura - La Diva

STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Laura is a spunky, engaging, super saucy, fun gal who has been cooking since she was eight years old, combining her knowledge of the kitchen with over 23+ years experience as a cocktail bartender. Laura offers cooking & cocktail classes, as well as catering services.

Krista - Rambling Tart

STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Krista is a Danish-Canadian who loves to write, travel & cook!  She’s been traveling & exploring for the last 18 years & loves every amazing, embarrassing & wonderful moment which shines through clearly in her beautiful photos as she shares her experiences with us all.

Chef Kathy - Northern Italian Food & Wine

STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Kathy splits her time between the seacoast of northern Massachusetts & the mountains of Maine & has recently spent time in Northern Italy working with a team who offers a unique biking, hiking & skiing tours with a strong food & wine component.

Celia - Fig Jam & Lime Cordial

STYLISH BLOGGER AWARD

Celia is a baker extraordinaire, she pickles and preserves, she tempers chocolate, and offers up lovely thoughts on life too. She goes into the specifics on ‘chocolate making’, ‘jams, jellies and sauces’, ‘bread’ and a whole bunch more. Oh, and how can I forget the chooks….

OZHARVEST AMBASSADOR

At the risk of being ‘that girl’ who cleans up on the big awards night, I’m really excited to announce that late last year I was named Australian Capital Territory Ambassador for OzHarvest, a charity that ‘rescues’ wasted food from food retailers, caterers, hotels, restaurants & other food outlets, & delivers by refrigerated vans on the same day to refuges & charities, allowing them to provide meals for the disadvantaged in our community.

Not only is this charity & all it does something that’s close to my heart, I also get to hang out at some swanky events, do the odd speaking engagement & generally spread the word.

Press Club…., but not just any trivia night… its for the Chefs Network & the subject matter is all about food!!!!! Fingers crossed Anna remembers all those French pronunciations – should be heaps of fun though & it’ll be great to get around all those chefs & make sure they know about OzHarvest huh :)

Congratulations on your lovely award. You are a wonderful blogger and I totally appreciate your passion for what you do. I especially appreciate your participation in OzHarvest – I can’t think of anything better than to help others with food that would otherwise go to waste (you know my preoccupation with wasting food)!
