When Kris & I were little, there was no finer celebration food than several slices of Red Velvet Cake washed down by a tall glass red lemonade. We were never that impressed by pink lemonade that was all the rage back then. No Siree, only pansies drank pink drinks! We preferred to go right to the top shelf & each glass of lemonade got 3 healthy shots of red cordial & if Mom wasn’t looking we’d sneak in an extra shot of the red stuff. We were absolutely convinced that this combination of fine food was the magic bullet to having the funniest of times, sending both of us into giggling idiots unable to stop laughing or screaming around at top speed.
So naturally, for the impromptu celebration engagement dinner, I decided for the dessert course to make some Red Velvet Cupcakes for old time sake for my little bro & my new sister in law to be. As time was a little short I topped the cupcakes with some fluffy white cream cheese frosting & planted a few little red edible flowers into them for fun. Now that we’re all grown up, we haven’t changed our minds at all on pink drinks & besides, it probably would be a hang-able offence if we had of doused our glasses of 2003 Vintage Brut Chandon with red cordial now wouldn’t it?
